APPLICATE brings together an international and multidisciplinary team of experts in weather and climate prediction in order to improve climate and weather forecasting capacity and to provide guidance on the design of the future observing system in the Arctic. The ambition of the project goes well beyond improving prediction in the Arctic, due to possible linkages between the Arctic and regions such as Europe, Asia, and North America. This is also critical given the potential influence that retreating sea ice, warming seas and a warming atmosphere has on the weather and climate in the mid-latitudes.
